Restaurant Review : Rowdy Red (Wine & Burger Bar)

Nominated for Downtown LA's "Best Burger" and "most afforadable Restaurant" by the Downtown News, Rowdy Red wine & burger bar will amaze your mouth and your wallet.

I was invited by my friend, Matt Kang, who's a well known food blogger among Los Angeles foodies (http://www.mattatouille.com/) to check out Rowdy Red. After I handed my car over to valet, Matt led me to escalater. I was expecting to go up, but instead, I was heading down.

Soon, I saw this wide open bar with other retail shops and restaurants (most fast food) around it. Rowdy Red definitely stood out for its style and vibe.

Free Run is one of their house wines.
2006 Free Run Merlot "Rutherford" $5 (glass)
2005 Free Run Cabernet "Rutherford" $12 (glass)

They offer Breakfast during busy mornings.
I did not try their breakfast, but according Matt, their pancake was pretty good.
Rowdy Red gets their Artisan hand roasted coffee beans from Peet's Coffee & Tea, located at Emeryville, CA

Matt and I weren't the only people there. The restaurant invited food bloggers and media personals to try their food.

We were quickly seated after sipping some good wines.
And the feast started.
PBR $2 (Can)

It started with onion rings, one of my FAVORITE fried food (well, I almost like anything fried).
I was so happy to see them. Golden Brown. Well cooked onions. Crunch batter. Dipped in, no other than classic Heinz Ketchup.

Onion Rings $2.25 (that's cheaper than Denny's)

French Fries were.. well, not the best. But I liked it. It is Fresh Hand Cut! It almost tasted like In-n-Out fries. But too much salt for my taste.

Fresh Hand Cut French Fries $1.90

Aren't those so cute? Those mini corndogs were amazing. If you like mini corndogs from big market freezer or other fast food restaurant, this will make you go NUTZ! The batter was sweet. Perfectly crunch outside, but doughy inside. Sausage inside wasn't too salty and it tasted so good with ketchup.

Mini Corn-dogs $3.25

Then, there was Spinach Artichoke Dip & Chips.
You might think you had better one at Chillis or whatevers, but this is just so good.
The salsa had pieces of jalapenos which I loved and added perfect amount of heat.

Spinach Artichoke Dip & Chips $4.85 (again, MUCH cheaper than any other chain restaurant)

Some people from the group ordered milkshakes.
Size? well, as big as other chain restaurants
Price?
Milkshakes $2.65 (that's right)
Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, Oreo, chocolate peanut butter, peet's coffee

As our appetizer plates were showing their bottom, our entrees started to come out.
Veggie Burger $5.25
Lettuce/Tomato/Pickles/Special Sauce

This is what Matt ordered. Ahi Burger.
Fresh Ahi Tuna seared RARE/Ginger Wasabi Mayo/Asian Slaw
The fish is from 'Santa Monica Seafood, Santa Monica, CA) It is independently owned. (again, local)

Ahi Burger $11.95

This is my order. Mush Room Burger.
All burgers come from 100% all natural Angus beef. No hormones. No antibiotics. Verified origins. Vegetarian diet. Angus breed. certified humane from Blackfoot Valley Montana.
The mushrooms were sauteed perfectly and tasted soooo goooood!

Mushroom Burger $6.50 (Isn't that cheaper than the Island?)

This was Amy's (she was sitting right next to me) order. BBQ Cheeseburger.
Comes with housemade BBQ sauce/crispy bacon/crispy onion/tillamook cheese

that bacon is just so... appetizing to me.. I can't tell you how good it is, since I didn't try it.

BBQ Cheeseburger $7.25

I am NOT sure what this is, but I am guessing it's Turkey Club.
House roasted turkey/avocado/bacon/tomato/lettuce/mayo

Turkey Club $7.50

Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks. I was very glad to find out that they serve Coke Zero. $2

After I finished my coke, I found Strawberry Lemonade.
Now, some of you already know that I LOVE strawberry lemonade from Red Robins. The strawberry lemonade from Rowdy Red tops it.

Almost cup full of lemonade. Blended strawberry on top (forming a layer). and some raspberry on top of that!

I actually drank from way bottom and strawberry layer, separately. Lemonade.. mmm so good. Strawberry... so sweet. Mixed all together... heaven.

Strawberry Lemonade $2.75

We were all full.

But we had to order desserts.
Some ordered cookie but Matt and I ordered their soft serve sundae.
No, I didn't get the picture wrong. That IS the soft serve sundae. Big? yes.. just as big as milkshake. price? hahaha you'll be surprised

Soft serve Sundaes $2.50
chocolate syrup, ore's, m&m's

Rowdy Red is well balanced.
The food, drinks, and price.

I have already shown you some of the prices and how reasonable (or ridiculously cheap compare to other restaurants).

Here are the 'combos' on their menu.
#1 Classic burger/fries/fountain soda $8.70
#2 Classic burger/fries/milkshake $9.30
#3 Classic burger/fries/beer $8.90
#4 Classic burger/fries/glass of house wine $10.55

see what I mean?
oh ye, they also have huge TVs to watch games while you stuff yourself with great food and drinks

2009 April LA Downtown Art Walk

LA Downtown Art Walk is the place to be if you love ARTs.
So many things to see, learn, and eat.

UCLA

Before my school starts, I wanted to visit UCLA.
Sure I've been there before, but never gotten a good tour.

Things didn't really work out as I thought. But I still got some shots.

Out of State relatives

To celebrate my aunt's 60th birthday, my mom's side family came together in LA.

My Cousin, Joanne, also came to visit Los Angeles, where once she lived.

Her friend from Atlanta also joined to tour around LA. We didn't have much time so we could only saw so much.

And Because I am going through a financial problems, all I could do was, take nice pictures :)

So, I set up something small at home, and started taking pictures for my cousin
She was such a great model :)

Then the next day, we went to Griffith Observatory

of course, we ate something before

Observatory was ton of fun :)

It took us about 12 shots to get this one right :)

The last day, before they went to LAX
I took them to Santa Monica Pier

Sadly, we got there right after the sun set :(

:)
